Hi there, I’m Nick Roberts, I am an accountant who has been working in public practice for the last 12 years.

I was an early adopter of Xero in 2007, and have been working with this platform  (as well as other accounting systems since). I would like to use my expertise to help people with their use of Xero and other accounting software solutions.

In this blog post I am going to cover how to setup Invoice templates to include your branding and to include long and complicated terms and conditions.

The default Xero options for branding your invoices is functional, but doesnt let you really give your invoices the chance to shine with your own personal branding.

Xero uses the Docx format to edit and upload invoice templates, which can be edited either by microsoft word / office 365 or google docs.

There is a wealth of information and tutorials on how to set up invoice templates.

How to Customize Custom Templates

So Why Should you Use Custom Templates

Customising your invoice templates can look daunting at first, but it can offer some real benefits to your business and what you are getting out of Xero.

Apply your branding to Invoices

So you have developed / purchased great digital and physical branding for your business, from how your emails look to the exterior branding on your building, however the invoices you send from Xero don’t match this.

With using the custom invoice templates you can apply your branding, so your invoices look as beautiful as the rest of your business communication.

Different Divisions of your Business Can Have Their Own Templates.

You business provides different products and services, for example a construction firm that provides both consulting and construction work, and the invoices need different items shown on them or different terms and conditions.

Xero allows you to have multiple invoice templates, that can be customised to suit the different needs of your business.

When preparing an invoice you can select what template is applied.

Ability to easily add Long and complicated Terms and Conditions

If you operate in an Industry that requires you to have long and complicated terms and conditions, by using custom invoices you can then use a custom invoice template to include these without having to re write them or to rely on a separate attachment being included.
